About the band

Linn Lorkin - Vocals/Piano

Brought up on a dairy-farm near Tokoroa, Linn Lorkin got her first piano lessons from her mother.  Her first professional gig was singing with a jazz trio in a low dive on the Copenhagen waterfront. The early '70s saw her playing Fender Rhodes on the Auckland  club scene and she went on to play the famous Ronnie Scott's jazz club in London. This was followed by eight years playing piano-bar in New York 1977-85, and plunging into songwriting, before returning to New Zealand and establishing herself as one of the most well-loved performers on the local scene.  Her solo show "Hey, Piano Bar Lady!' won the Best Cabaret award at the 2013 United Solo Festival in New York and was featured at Auckland Writers Festival 2018.  She was the recipient of a VAC NZ Scroll of Honour in 2014.

Hershal Herscher - Accordion/Piano

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Hershal learned piano-accordion from the age of seven eventually switching to piano. In his first years as a professional he achieved recognition in New York’s Afro-Cuban music scene receiving several awards as a pianist, music arranger and record producer. In New Zealand he has been the founder of, and musical arranger for, two successful long-running music groups: the Nairobi Trio and The Jews Brothers Band and a co-founder with Linn Lorkin of New Zealand’s most prominent French music ensemble French Toast. His most recent creation is a “kiwi” Afro-Cuban band Charanga Amadeus.

Dave Powell - Bass

The amazing Dave Powell is a doctor, a pilot AND a musician who plays saxophone and bass. He has performed with many Auckland jazz combos including those of June Hayes, Edwina Thorne and Suzanne Lynch, featuring with the latter two at the Bay of Islands Jazz Festival.

Bryan Harris - Drums/ Vocals.

Bryan began playing drums in the 60s and was the drummer in various local Auckland bands including “The Action" and "La De Das” until 1967 when he moved to Sydney to continue the art. Playing constantly he ultimately joined a show band in Surfers Paradise which resulted in the backing of most of the main cabaret acts in Australia over the next few years. Returning to NZ in the early 80s, Bryan continued with music and, now retired, he is enjoying playing purely for the fun of it.
