Robyn Alexander

From a very musical family, Robyn grew up surrounded by all kinds of music from opera to country and everything in between so it’s no wonder that she would start performing and composing songs at an early age and enjoy singing in a wide range of musical styles.  Her compositions are a unique fusion of the music she loves.

She would always feature in her school choir and musical productions, progressing to sing in a rock band shortly after leaving school until the pressures of having to “get a real job” took her down academic routes for a while.  But music would take the forefront in Robyn’s life again 25years ago when she started singing professionally.  Since then she’s fronted several corporate bands, performed in shows, toured alongside other artists throughout New Zealand and appeared in Australia, Norfolk Island, and Germany.  She has also had the pleasure of working with some of the world’s musical legends through her concert promotions business for the last 12 years, including being invited on stage to sing with the great Roberta Flack, and produced two albums of her own songs.

Max Cryer, renowned New Zealand music producer, performer, journalist, broadcaster, and teacher writes of Robyn’s first album….. “I find your singing excellent.  The voice is clear, the attack incisive, the pitching accurate and tone attractive.  There is also an indefinable “modern sound” which is difficult for someone who doesn’t have it to achieve.  You have it quite naturally.  Your voice seems quite able to produce a sweetness of sound, an echo of anguish, and a sultriness that is a fairly rare gift.  The voice has an air of class”.

After a foray into country music touring New Zealand and Germany for the last two years, Robyn returns to the Bay of Islands Jazz & Blues Festival and her preferred music roots to perform the songs of her favourite artists and her latest album.
